Duties and Responsibilities

• • Provide urban design advice and input into statutory deliverables (e.g. plans required by planning legislation) and non-statutory deliverables (e.g. masterplans, urban framework plans and design statements) deliverables.
  • Deliver a high-quality urban design advisory service to a diverse client  base and to work collectively with various departments within the local authority, other state agencies and the local community to enhance the attractiveness of the County as a place in which to live, work, visit, invest and enjoy.
  • Provide urban design advice on the formulation of urban design policy and development guidance
  • Provide urban design advice in the formulation of Character Statements for Architectural Conservation Areas working with the Architectural Conservation Officer.
  • Provide urban design advice on the implementation of projects that help to achieve excellent places across County Kildare. This could be at the scale of town / settlement, neighborhood, place, street or space.
  • You will be responsible for project management where you are the lead on specific projects. You may form part of a multi-disciplinary team led by another Council service or have responsibility for providing urban design advice to projects in their development. This may include contributing to the development management process in relation to complex major developments of scale.
  • Provide urban design input to local delivery of national programmes such as Urban Regeneration & Development Fund (URDF), Rural Regeneration Development Fund (RRDF), Town & Village Renewal Scheme, CLÁR Programme, Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme, LEADER Programmes as appropriate.
  • Promote best practice in relation to urban design matters including the principles of people-centred urban design and healthy placemaking as an effective growth management tool to ensure the realisation of more sustainable, inclusive, and well-designed settlements resilient to the effects of climate change and adapted to meet the changing needs of growing populations.
  • Prepare reports of an excellent standard;
  • Attend executive and Council meetings to provide urban design advice, as required

Education, Training and Experience etc.:

Each candidate must, on the latest date for receipt of completed application forms:

1. 1. Hold a minimum educational qualification of primary degree in a relevant built environment subject AND postgraduate qualification in Urban Design;
   2. Have a track record in Urban Design and Placemaking;
   3. Have a minimum of three years work experience at an appropriate level of responsibility in a related position following graduation;
2. 4. Demonstrate knowledge or experience of assessment procedures and practice relating to the natural environment;
3. 5. Possess excellent communication skills;
4. 6. Possess good organisational and management skills;
5. 7. Be enterprising, innovative, and capable of working to a brief on his/her own initiative and;
6. 8. Research skills including the ability to carry out high quality background research and urban design analysis in conjunction with report writing experience.

Applicants should at the date of applying hold a full valid Irish /EU licence, for Class B vehicles
