The Patrick Kavanagh Centre
The Patrick Kavanagh Centre is a Cultural Centre and Visitor Experience that honours and celebrates the life and work of poet Patrick Kavanagh. Based in Inniskeen the centre is open all year round and provides a variety of visitor experiences including guided tours and retail. The centre functions as an event space and is the key venue for the annual Kavanagh Weekend festival. This engagement with contemporary culture through event and festival production also extends to commissions across multiple artforms including theatre, exhibition, and book publication.
The Role
The role of the Visitor Experience Coordinator is to support the smooth running of all visitor experience activities including tours, events, retail, and general public interactions with respect to The Patrick Kavanagh Centre. This includes managing front of house operations, ensuring the highest level of customer service for all who visit and engage with The Patrick Kavanagh Centre and related activities, including visitors, artists, audiences, stakeholders, production companies, team members, people from the local community and more. This successful candidate will be based at The Patrick Kavanagh Centre and will work 35 hours per week over a five-day period from Monday to Saturday. The role will include building supervision, operational support, and general administrative support to the Centre Manager. The role requires flexibility in terms of working hours as the duties will involve working outside of normal office hours which may include working on Sundays/public holidays when required.
The Visitor Experience Coordinator (Patrick Kavanagh Centre) will work under the control of the Manager of the Patrick Kavanagh Centre, or other officers designated by the Director of Services or Chief Executive.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Visitor Experience Coordinator (Grade IV) (Patrick Kavanagh Centre) shall perform such duties as may from time to time be assigned in relation to employment and as may be appropriate to any function of the Patrick Kavanagh Centre and shall carry out such instructions as may be given in relation to the performance of their duties. The duties will include but are not limited to:
Ensuring the smooth daily operations of The Patrick Kavanagh Centre across all operational activities. To include cash handling, financial administration, and other activities as they arise.
Assisting the Centre Manager in the maintenance and ongoing review of centre policies and procedures.
Maintaining excellent customer care across written and verbal communications. Including visitors for all centre experiences, festivals and events, retail support and any telephone, online and email interactions.
Supporting the delivery of all visitor experiences on offer and providing colleagues with appropriate guidance for delivery of same.
Providing point of contact support for any groups (including schools) interested in a tour experience, from initial enquiry through to fulfilment of booking.
Providing business development support for group tours across domestic and international markets. To include schools.
Supporting facilities management for The Patrick Kavanagh Centre and environs; to include maintenance, security, cleaning, waste management, infrastructural and other requirements as they arise.
Ensuring visitor data accurately recorded as required for reporting purposes.
Ensuring the facility’s operations and activities are health & safety compliant.
Assisting the Centre Manager in delivering and managing a varied and integrated programme of activities, with a particular focus on evening events.
Assisting the Centre Manager with marketing and promotional activities.
Deputising for the Centre Manager when required, such as attending trade workshops/shows networking events and appropriate stakeholder meetings.
Assisting the Centre manager in the delivery and development of tourism products for the Patrick Kavanagh Centre and South Monaghan Cluster.
Supporting the centre manager in developing and maintaining relationships with key industry stakeholders (i.e. Failte Ireland, AVEA, Monaghan Tourism Forum).
Representing the Centre professionally and effectively in the public domain as required.
Undertaking HR responsibilities which may include rotas, leave etc.
Providing leadership to volunteers / work placement FOH and seasonal staff as appropriate.
Ensuring that all cash handling procedures and policies are adhered to.
Attending all mandatory training as required.
Carrying out other reasonable duties as may be assigned by the Centre Manager.
These duties are indicative rather than exhaustive and outline the main functions and responsibilities of the post of the Visitor Experience Coordinator (Grade IV) (Patrick Kavanagh Centre)and may be subject to change in the future.The post holder may therefore be required to perform duties appropriate to the post, other than those detailed above and to take instruction from and report to an appropriate officer or such designated officer as may be assigned from time to time by Monaghan County Council.
