Senior Executive Engineer (Bridge Management)

The Mid West National Road Design Office is a shared service between Limerick City and County Council and Tipperary County Council, in partnership with Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII). The office is involved in the design, management and delivery of Major and Minor National Road Projects, pavement improvement schemes, Bridge Management, road safety schemes and other road improvements in the Mid West Region.

The Position
The Senior Executive Engineer SEE (Bridge Management) will implement the Bridge Management System (EIRSPAN) for bridges and other structures on the National Road Network within the Munster region. He/she will work in conjunction with other SEE (Bridge Management) located throughout the country and relevant Local Authority & TII staff. The geographical area of responsibility will include several counties, thus close co-operation will be required with Directors of Service, Senior Engineers and Area Engineers in these Local Authorities. He/she will be responsible for procuring/ arranging/ organising the maintenance of National Road structures such that they will remain in a functional, safe and visually acceptable state. He/she will report to, and be subject to the direction of the Senior Engineer – National Roads Office in regard to the administration of the NRO and working relationships with other staff at the NRO. He/she will report to TII management through the Senior Engineer – Structures in relation to bridge management issues.

The Person - Qualifications

1. Character:
Each candidate shall be of good character.

2. Health:
Each candidate must be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.

3. Education, Training, Experience, Etc.
Essential Criteria

Candidates shall:

(a)hold an honours degree (level 8 in the National Framework of Qualifications) in Engineering;

(b)have at least seven years’ satisfactory experience of engineering works including satisfactory experience in civil engineering work, and

(c)possess a high standard of technical training and experience.

Desirable Criteria
Candidates will demonstrate through their application form and at the interview that he/she has/is:

• sufficient knowledge and understanding of civil engineering projects, preferably structural engineering works, including the planning, design and / or construction of bridge works and other structural works associated with road works;
• sufficient understanding and/or working knowledge of issues relevant to bridge management and maintenance;
• knowledge and awareness of health and safety legislation and regulations and their application in the workplace;
• excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
• people management skills;
• leadership skills and experience;
• problem solving skills;
• competency in the area of information technology;
• current, full, unendorsed class B drivers licence and use of own car;
• flexibility in terms of working hours as the duties can involve working outside of
normal office hours as required.
