There are five electoral areas in Louth: Ardee, Drogheda Rural, Drogheda Urban, Dundalk-Carlingford and Dundalk South to which 29 county councillors are elected.

The Council provides a diverse range of services across the county. Key services areas include housing delivery, planning and development, fire and emergency services, physical development and place-making (including road maintenance & improvements, public realm, and infrastructural projects), library and cultural services, community services and facilities, economic development and tourism promotion, and supporting local indigenous businesses via the local enterprise office.

An opportunity now exists in Louth County Council for the position of Senior Executive Planner.

This position is a senior position within the Planning Department reporting to the Senior Planner and/or other employee nominated by the Chief Executive. The Senior Executive Planner is responsible for managing elements of the Planning Department and providing a multiplicity of services to Local Authorities.
