South Dublin County Council is one of four local authorities in the Dublin region. The Council’s administrative area is 222.74 square kilometres, bounded by Dublin city to the northeast, the Dublin Mountains and County Wicklow to the south, the River Liffey to the north separating it from Fingal and County Kildare to the west. Within that area is a population of 278,767 people living in the county, over 6,500 business and significant economic, social and cultural infrastructure to serve a growing capital city region.
The Corporate Plan provides the vision and strategic direction for the Council over a five year period and sets out the ambition to make the county a vibrant and inclusive place for the people who live, visit, work and do business here, now and for the future. The role of the Council as provided for in law is to represent, lead and serve the communities of South Dublin County.
This is achieved through the role of 40 elected members who represent seven electoral areas and approximately 1,300 employees. The revenue budget for 2024 provides over €338 million in expenditure to deliver these services. A three-year programme of capital investment of a further €570m in the infrastructure of the county will facilitate accelerated provision of social and affordable housing, the regeneration of the county’s towns, villages and district centres, the completion of numerous climate action initiatives and the provision of significant community infrastructure to meet the needs of expanding communities and those planned for the future. Please note that the above list of projects, policies and actions is not exhaustive.
