Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for inclusion on a panel from which temporary appointments may be made to the position of Temporary Executive Scientist – (2 Year Fixed Term Contract) in the Community, Culture & Placemaking Directorate. The successful candidate will be employed by Cork City Council.
The Executive Scientist is a key post within the Sports and Sustainability Section of Cork City Council. The section sits within the Directorate of Community, Culture and Placemaking (CCP).
Working to implement national and local policy, particularly the Cork City Corporate Plan, Cork City Climate Action Plan and the Waste Management Plan for a Circular Economy, the Executive Scientist will have responsibility for delivery of Cork City Council’s Environmental Awareness and Education Programme, including the Lifetime Lab Education Programme. The Executive Scientist shall report to the Senior Executive Officer of the Sports & Sustainability Section in the Community, Culture & Placemaking Directorate.
The role requires a high-level technical ability together with an understanding and knowledge of the science, legislation, policies and plans that underpin the Local Authority’s role in Environmental Management and education. The role involves activation of local communities, businesses, schools and stakeholders and requires an ability to engage with the public.
The role also requires a clear knowledge and understanding of local authority services and its key stakeholders and relationships, local government structure and its democratic role and mandate, current local government issues, future trends and strategic direction of the sector.
The role requires flexibility in terms of working hours as the duties may involve working outside of normal office hours.
