The role South Dublin County Council provides a broad range of services to a population of 280,000 people on a daily basis. Under the direction and supervision of the appropriate line manager, the position involves the provision of such engineering or ancillary services as may be required by the Council in the exercise and performance of any of its powers, functions and duties. The office is wholetime, temporary and pensionable and the contract is for a fixed term of three years. The successful candidate will hold the post of Graduate Scientist for one three-year period only. Offers will be made subject to the candidate submitting, to the satisfaction of the Council, evidence of holding an honours degree (level eight or higher in the National Framework of Qualifications) prior to taking up duty
Duties The duties of the office are to give the local authority and (a) such other local authorities or bodies for which the Chief Executive for the purposes of the City and County Management Acts, is Chief Executive, and (b) to any other local authority or body with which an agreement has been made by the local authority or by any of the authorities or bodies mentioned in sub-paragraph (a) of this paragraph, under the direction and supervision of the appropriate officer, control and carry out scientific / ancillary services given to them within the service area to which they are assigned, these services area may include, but are not be limited to, the Environment, Water and Climate Change Directorate as may be required by any local authority or body hereinbefore mentioned in the exercise and performance of any of its powers, functions and duties including the duty of assisting the appropriate officer in the supervision of such services of any of the foregoing local authorities or bodies. Duties may include, but may not be limited to: • Waste management and enforcement. • Catchment management. • Water Framework Directive monitoring. • The implementation of Water Pollution legislation. • The implementation of the Drinking Water regulations. • Preparing reports and maintaining good records as required. • Carry out environmental inspections. • Ensuring an efficient and effective response to all stakeholders. • Any duties as assigned by the Line Manager. The Graduate Scientist will be assigned to the Environment, Water and Climate Change (EWCC) Directorate.
