The role of Arts Officer will be critical in implementing Cavan County Council’s Arts Plan and will assist and advise in regard to new or existing arts projects in the County. The successful candidate will have a key responsibility in the planning and management of the Council’s arts activities.

Main responsibilities:
The principal duties and responsibilities will be to perform such duties appropriate to the grade of Arts Officer that may be assigned:
 

• To develop and co-ordinate in conjunction with the Council and the Arts Council artistic activities in County Cavan
• To advise and assist persons, groups, organisations in the County in matters relating to the Arts
• To act as a key advocate for the Arts within the County
• Securing funding for the development of the Arts including implementation of the “per cent” scheme
• To represent the Arts agenda both internally (across Departments and within the Strategic Policy Committee and senior management structures) and externally to other key agencies and complementary bodies including The Arts Council, Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Department of Education, National Arts and Cultural institutions, Universities and Education providers
• Work collaboratively with Arts Office Personnel and Local Authority Staff on the annual Arts Office Service Delivery Plan delivering capacity in the arts in County Cavan.
• Will work to increase the level of public engagement in the arts throughout the county in a sustained way, including but not limited to the ongoing development of Culture Night, supporting, and developing festivals, supporting community arts development.
• Work to increase diversification in the arts and audience development.
• Work with the Local Arts and Education Partnership and the youth arts sector in County Cavan to support youth arts development.
• Support the Arts Office to deliver on the Creative Cavan objectives.
• To develop and deliver programmes, including festivals, arts projects, residencies, public arts and capital developments
• To motivate and inspire enthusiasm for the Arts throughout the County
• To ensure a balanced cultural provision for the area – music, film, theatre, dance, visual arts, literature
• To liaise with the Arts Council and other Art bodies
• To produce and implement a development plan with the guidance of the County Council and the Arts Council, based on the state of the Arts, their needs and potential
• To develop proposals for the establishment of an Arts Information and Advice service and the housing of the Arts in the County
• The integration of the Arts with other aspect of the work of the Local Authority, e.g. planning, parks, amenities, libraries, etc
• To perform such other appropriate duties in relation to the Arts in the region as may from time to time be assigned by the Council
• To provide support to a more senior officer as required
• To manage any budget allocated to him/her as effectively and efficiently as possible
• To propose improvements in the effectiveness and efficiency of existing practices/systems
• To act when required for a more senior employee during his/her absence for any reason
• To supervise staff as required
• Such other duties as may from time to time be reasonably assigned
