The duties to be assigned include the following although this list is not exhaustive and may be reviewed from time to time as organisational needs require.
The duty of a sporadic cover School Warden is to safeguard children on their way to and from school when crossing busy thoroughfares. Wardens must attend at the crossing to which they are detailed regularly and punctually. In the event of being unable to attend through sickness or any other cause, it is essential that the Line Manager be informed of the fact.
On appointment, the warden will be equipped with the following articles of equipment:

• A portable traffic sign, as prescribed in the Traffic Warden Regulations, 1955, to be exhibited by the Traffic Warden for the purpose of stopping traffic.
• Personal protective equipment.
• A form of identification signed by the council.
