Fingal County Council Sports Office seeks a highly motivated individual to fill the role of Graduate Sport Officer. This position is designed to strengthen and enhance the capacity of local sports development in Fingal through locally-led plans and sustainable physical activity programmes under the Fingal Local Sports Plan, Active Together (2024-2029). The Graduate Sport Officer will promote Active Participation in sport and physical activity, with a specific focus on overcoming barriers to participation for disadvantaged groups in Fingal County.
Key Responsibilities:

  1. Research
    • Establish a baseline in target communities selected for intervention, assessing current levels of participation in physical activity and sports.
    • Conduct an audit of local sports clubs, ensuring data is updated where previous audits have been carried out.
    • Collect and analyse relevant data to identify community needs, gaps, and opportunities for the development of sports activities.
  2. Community Activation
    • Collaborate with local communities to consult, identify, and address the need and demand for new sports and physical activity opportunities.
    • Offer guidance and support to foster the development of sustainable community sports clubs and groups.
    • Develop targeted initiatives and programmes to tackle local barriers to participation, particularly among underrepresented or disadvantaged groups.
    • Support and maintain strong links between schools and local sports clubs, ensuring pathways for young people to engage in community sports.
  3. Planning
    • Develop community action plans based on the needs identified through research and consultation, ensuring they align with the strategic objectives of the Fingal Local Sports Plan Active, Together (2024-2029).
  4. Relationship Building
    • Work closely with smaller national governing bodies of sport that do not currently have dedicated development officers, helping to expand and increase opportunities for participation across various sporting disciplines.
    • Build relationships with local sports clubs, community organisations, schools, and relevant stakeholders to create a cohesive and inclusive sports network within Fingal County.
  5. Facilitation
    • Assist with the continued rollout of Sport Ireland’s funding initiatives, including Dormant Accounts Funded projects and other relevant investment schemes.
    • Coordinate and facilitate training, development, and capacity-building opportunities for community leaders, coaches, volunteers, and clubs.
  6. Evaluation
    • Implement a monitoring and evaluation framework for all projects, ensuring outcomes and impact are effectively assessed and reported.
    • Use data from monitoring and evaluation activities to inform future programme development and improvements.
  7. Additional Responsibilities
    • Contribute to the design, organisation, and implementation of key projects and events that support the development of sports and physical activity in Fingal County.
    • Undertake any other duties as assigned by the Senior Sport Officer or Principal Sport Officer.
