Galway City Council is establishing a panel for the position of Climate Action Officer (Executive Professional Level) from which future relevant vacancies may be filled during the lifetime of the panel.
The local authority sector recognises that in order to support our communities, local enterprises and the wider public sector to deliver on climate policy ambitions, there needs to be a consistent focus on building internal capacity and enabling organisational culture change.
Alongside supporting the Climate Action Coordinator in designing and delivering climate action strategies and policies, the proposed Climate Action Officer resource will drive organisational change initiatives. This will enable effective delivery, while building capacity across the partnership local authorities work with.
The current vacancy is on a fixed term contract basis, duration of which will be for approximately 4 years.
The Climate Action Officer will report to the Climate Change Coordinator and will be responsible for managing and promoting behavioural cultural change, building climate action awareness and readiness across the local authority, and delivering climate action in partnership with council departments. The Climate Action Officer will be an integral member of the Climate Action Team and will contribute to the Climate Action Steering Group within the local authority.
This is a challenging and exciting position and requires a broad technical knowledge of climate change, the risks and possible mitigation and adaptation strategies, and a strong organisational, networking, and communication skill set.
