The IS Technical Officer position is a technical support role in one of the following areas – end user device management, networks, server & storage, business systems, software development, information security and IT service desk.

Due to the dynamic nature of ICT, the opportunities presented by shared services, cloud technology paradigms and changing business requirements within Kerry County Council, all positions in IT Services demand a flexibility to work in other IT service areas as needs change.  All IT employment contracts offered contain duties which have generic or core components and require staff adaptability to undertake IT work at a similar level elsewhere in the IT structure.  The Duties and Responsibilities as set out in this booklet reflect the immediate and foreseeable needs, but as these needs or the working environment changes, employees will have to acquire up-to-date skills for new roles.  Kerry County Council supports employees in meeting short-term and long-term training objectives through our PMDS processes.

The ideal candidate would present with the skillset listed, experience in a similar role in an equally challenging and diverse environment, with a proven desire to maintain and develop their skills, backed up with qualifications.  Working within an established team the successful candidate will be providing Technical Support to a range of users across Kerry County Council and to users external to the organisation. The candidate must be able to work autonomously and as part of a team and enjoy keeping up to date with the latest technologies.

 

Each candidate must, on the latest date for receipt of completed application forms have;

1. 1. a qualification at Level 8 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) major award (i.e. honours degree) or higher in a relevant computing discipline, plus 2 years’ directly relevant, recent ICT experience from their employment to date

1. 2. a qualification at Level 8 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) major award (i.e. honours degree) or higher, with computing taken in the final year and at least 3 years’ directly relevant, recent ICT hands-on experience from their employment to date

1. 3. a qualification at Level 7 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) major award (i.e. ordinary degree) in a relevant computing discipline, plus 3 years’ directly relevant, recent ICT experience from their employment to date

1. 4. a qualification at Level 6 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ)  major award in a relevant computing discipline and at least 4 years’ directly relevant, recent ICT experience from their employment to date

1. 5. have satisfactory knowledge of public service organisation or the ability to acquire such knowledge

• have technical and hands-on experience required for the role
• be well organised and practical, with a logical, analytical approach to problem solving
• have good interpersonal skills and be able to establish positive relationships with  council staff, Councillors, partners, external agencies and suppliers
• have a positive attitude and be self-motivated
• be committed to self-development and be enthusiastic about acquiring new skills and embracing new technologies as required for the role
