Duties and Responsibilities

1. Financial management, accounting, budgeting and reporting.  Administration of the Road Safety Unit including staff management and budgetary control including the meeting of key targets and indicators;
2. Operating the School Warden Service including assigning duties to Road Safety Assistants;
3. Sourcing materials and equipment, for example, uniforms and meeting with suppliers/obtaining quotations/checking quality of products required;
4. Assisting in the recruitment of Relief School Wardens and new/replacement School Wardens as required;
5. On-site training and inspections with regard to the location of new wardens, road markings, signs etc ;
6. Maintain records of School Warden Crossings and personnel;
7. Liaising with the Department of Social and Family Affairs and be familiar with the information and requirements with regard to School Wardens during School Holiday periods;
8. Preparing, promoting and participating in the implementation of the Road Safety Plan;
9. Arrange and provide Cycle Training at schools. When necessary examine school children in cycle proficiency and knowledge;
10. Develop and organise cycleways and greenways promotional events;
11. Respond to requests for information and/or written reports from the Senior Engineer or Senior Executive Officer as required;
12. Supporting initiatives which support greater active travel and public transport journeys including Bike Week, European Mobility Week and other related promotions;
13. Support the Kildare Climate Action Regional Office (CARO) in implementing sustainable transport initiatives, advancing proposals and developing awareness-raising programmes.

Education, Training and Experience etc.:

It is desirable that each Candidate should, on the latest date for receipt of completed applications have:
 

1. Have a university degree (Level 7 or higher) in: engineering, town planning, architecture, landscape architecture, urban design, transport planning, quantity surveying, project management or equivalent;
2. Have at least 3 years relevant experience in an equivalent or similar role;
3. Have significant knowledge of Road Traffic and Road Safety Legislation and relevant National and International road safety strategies;
4. Have substantial knowledge of National and Regional Climate Action Strategies and their implementation plans;
5. Have significant experience of working with a variety of different levels of Stakeholders.
6. Demonstrate significant experience in the development of projects from concept to development to delivery stage.
7. Have excellent research capability, analytical skills and presentation skills   
8. Have excellent communications and business report writing skills with demonstrated evidence of robust IT literacy (i.e., MS Office skills including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

The applicant must at the latest date for receipt of applications hold a full driving licence for Class B vehicles
