Job Summary

Mayo County Council is advertising for the creation of a panel for the position of Climate Action Officer from which future relevant temporary and permanent vacancies may be filled. This is a wholetime specific purpose contract position until 30th June 2029

Mayo County Council recognises that in order to support our communities, local enterprises and the wider public sector to deliver on climate policy ambitions, there needs to be a consistent focus on building internal capacity and enabling organisational culture change.

Alongside supporting the Climate Action Coordinator in designing and delivering climate action strategies and policies, the Climate Action Officer (CAO) will drive organisational change initiatives.

The Climate Action Officer will be responsible for the efficient management of their prescribed work area. The CAO will be responsible for managing the internal change in relation to Climate Action, building climate action awareness and readiness across the local authority and providing support to the Co-ordinator. Employees at this level work within defined parameters relevant to the position, in accordance with the Local Authority’s vision and objectives. The CAO will be required to work closely with elected Councillors, across directorates of Mayo County Council and with external stakeholders to deliver the full range of services and implement local policy decisions.

In the current economic climate, managers are charged with service delivery and change management in an environment of limited resource availability, both human and financial. Delivery of efficient services and value for money is crucial.

Each Candidate must, on the latest date for receipt of completed application forms:

  1. hold an honours degree (level 8 in the National Framework of Qualifications) or equivalent professional qualification in Engineering, Planning, Science, Architecture, or another relevant discipline
  2. Have at least 5 years satisfactory relevant experience
  3. Possess a high standard of relevant experience
  4. Possess a high standard of administrative experience
