County Westmeath is located in the midlands of Ireland in the province of Leinster and is one of twelve Local Authorities comprising the Eastern and Midlands Region. It has a population of 96,221 (2022 Census) and has a total land mass of approximately 1,840km² making it the 6th largest county in Leinster. The principal towns are Athlone, Moate, Kilbeggan and Mullingar, Kinnegad and Castlepollard.
The Council is mandated to deliver a diverse range of functions and services which can be broadly described under the headings of economic development, community development, the provision of physical and social infrastructure, recreation and amenity services and the enforcement of the planning and environmental regulatory framework. The role of the County Council as provided for in law is to represent, lead and serve the communities of County Westmeath.
An opportunity now exists in Westmeath County Council for the position of Financial Accountant.
The Financial Accountant is a senior position within the Finance Department reporting to the Director of Finance. The successful candidate will be responsible for modernising and managing change in the finance function. They will be responsible for the introduction of new initiatives, policies and procedures and working with multidisciplinary teams. The successful candidate will work in a dynamic and progressive organisation that provides a multiplicity of services to the County.
