THE ROLE Cork County Council is currently recruiting for a Relief Operator for the Dursey Cable Car. The successful candidate will provide relief for the other Operators for sick leave and annual leave all year round.
DUTIES The Cable Car Relief Operator’s duties will be carried out under the general direction of the Senior Cable Car Operator, Senior Executive Officer, Executive Engineer or other designated officer. The duties may include but are not limited to the following;
1. Operating the cable car and general maintenance;
2. Cleaning the toilets, cable car and environs;
3. Implementing the Health and Safety regime;
4. Collecting fares, issuing receipts and preparing lodgements;
5. Lodging money in Castletownbere bank;
6. Timesheets and reporting to Executive Engineer, Castletownbere Area Office;
7. Perform other duties as appropriate to the post which may be assigned to him/her from time to time and to contribute to the development of the post while in office.

1. Character Each candidate must be of good character.
2. Health Each candidate must be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.
3. Education, Training, Experience etc. Each Candidate must, on the latest date for receipt of completed application forms for the office: (a) Have a standard of education such as will enable the applicant to satisfactorily perform the duties of the position. (b) Hold a full current Driving Licence in respect of Category “B” Vehicles or equivalent in the E.U. Model Driving Licence, free from endorsement.
The ideal candidate will also possess the following skills and attributes and have a good technical knowledge base and experience/knowledge of the following:
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills,
• Managing Health, Safety and Welfare in the workplace,
• Dealing with the public,
• Flexibility in terms of working hours as this position requires the successful candidate to be available to work evenings and weekends,
• Interest in the development and improvement of Dursey Cable Car.
4. Age Age restrictions shall only apply to a candidate where he/she is not classified as a new entrant within the meaning of the Public Services Superannuation Act, 2004. A candidate who is not classified as a new entrant must be under 70 years of age.
