The Craftworker Painter is a key role within the Galway City Council Housing Department. Galway City Council owns and maintains approximately 2,500 social houses at present. The Craftworker Painter role is critical to the efficient maintenance and management of the Council’s housing stock.

Works will include: planned, routine and emergency repairs as required. Preventative maintenance works are also required on an ongoing basis. Works can incorporate all aspects of painting contained within domestic house constructions both externally and internally.

As a Craftworker Painter, the successful candidate will be required to work as part of an overall housing maintenance team. This will involve co-ordinating and carrying out works in conjunction with the Area Foreman, the Housing Maintenance Clerk of Works, Electricians, Carpenters, external contractors and General Operatives.

The role of Craftworker Painter will involve significant interaction with the Council’s tenants and therefore, excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required for this role.
 

Duties of the post of Craftworker Painter:
 

• Undertaking painting works during the construction, repair and refurbishment of Galway City Council properties as directed;
• Supervision of staff assigned to her/him from time to time
• Supervising as directed works of repair and construction;
• The keeping of records as required.
• Driving Galway City Council vehicles as required.
• Manage Council resources effectively and efficiently.
• To carry out such other duties as may be required by the Foremen, Supervisors, Engineers or as delegated.
• Ensure compliance with all organisational policies, procedures and legislation.
• Demonstrate flexibility and mobility consistent with the needs of the service including the use of new technologies.
• Operate such systems (including information technology) as are necessary to achieve maximum efficiency in the position.
• Support and participate in the establishment and maintenance of improved standards and quality initiatives.
• Co-operate fully with the implementation of new technology and regulations in their areas of operation;

• To implement and abide by Galway City Council’s Health & Safety policies and procedures.
• Any other duties as directed by Galway City Council.
