Job Summary

  1. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    1. Duties of the ROLE shall include:
The duties may include but are not limited to the following and the post holder may be required to perform other duties as appropriate to the post which may be assigned to him/her from time to time and to contribute to the development of the post while in office.
  1. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Below are examples of the role and responsibilities of a Technician Grade 1 within various departments, however, the lists below are not exhaustive, and the duties may overlap or vary within each area.

Duties & Responsibilities in Housing:

Housing Technicians will join at team that manages the maintenance, both reactive and planned of Kilkenny County Council’s Social Housing Stock and manages the delivery of new housing stock, both in-house and with external design teams, while ensuring that works are in accordance with best practice and current Building Regulations.
 
      1. Assisting with the design of housing units, extensions, retrofit programmes and alterations using AutoCAD and / or REVIT and other software in the production of drawings and specifications for appraisal, planning, detailed design and tender stages.
      2. Undertaking housing inspections, taking records and compiling reports. These inspections may be for purposes such as planned or reactive maintenance of social housing stock, monitoring of private rented standards or assessment of grant applications. 
      3. Managing projects and contractors appointed to carry out a variety of works.  
      4. Carry out any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.




Duties & Responsibilities in Planning:

Assisting in the day to day operation and maintenance of transportation infrastructure in the County as well as assisting in record keeping and analysis of development in the Planning Department. 
      1. Preparation of reports, survey and record data and processing of information using computer systems, such as GIS and AutoCAD.  
      2. Interaction with members of the public and Elected Officials, providing information and informing them of upcoming works and dealing with associated enquiries. The use of drafting, mechanical drawing or surveying techniques and equipment will also be required.

Duties & Responsibilities in Environment:
      1. Licensing and monitoring in respect of effluent.
      2. Monitoring/surveying of waste management facilities including recycling, compositing, transfer stations and landfill.
      3. Investigation of environmental (Air, Noise & Water) pollution incidents, evaluation and reporting.
      4. Waste sampling and analysis.
      5. Undertaking and reporting on Farm Inspections Under Good Agricultural Practice Regs 2020.
      6. Interaction with the EPA in relation to water and wastewater treatment system inspections/audits and subsequent follow up.
      7. Incident reporting and follow up including interaction with Health Service Executive (HSE), EPA and IW.

Duties & Responsibilities in Roads:
      1. The procurement and supervision of Road Construction, design and maintenance projects will be an essential part of the job along with assessment of pavement and footpaths standards to assist in the prioritisation of work programs on an annual basis.
      2. Preparation of detailed design drawings for contract documents using AutoCAD.
      3. The use of surveying equipment.
      4. Utilising technical software packages such as AutoCAD and ArcGIS.
      5. Supporting other staff in the implementation and use of AutoCAD & GIS systems and applications.
      6. Management/Supervision of staff and working as part of a team. with all relevant sections in order to gather and compile all existing hard copies of services and digitise same.
      7. Report writing in relation to all of the above including ensuring that reporting is complete, timely and accurate, and that content is appropriate to users’ needs.
      8. Carry out any other activities that may be assigned by Line Manager/Supervisor from time to time.
