County Laois is located in the province of Leinster and has a population of 91,877 persons (2022 Census). This represents an actual increase of 7,180 or 8% since the last census in 2016.
Laois shares its border with five other counties and has a total land area of 1,720 km2. The county is landlocked and, uniquely in Ireland, does not border any other county which touches the coast. Laois is the 19th largest of the Republic of Ireland’s 26 counties and is the 22nd largest Local Authority area in terms of population.
The Council is mandated to deliver a diverse range of functions and services which can be broadly described under the headings of economic development, community development, the provision of physical and social infrastructure, recreation and amenity services, and the enforcement of the planning and environmental regulatory framework. The role of the County Council as provided for in law is to represent, lead and serve the communities of County Laois.
An opportunity now exists in Laois County Council for the position of Financial Management Accountant.
The Financial Management Accountant is a senior position within the Finance Department reporting to the Director of Finance. The successful candidate will be responsible for modernising and managing change in the finance function. They will be responsible for the introduction of new initiatives, policies and procedures and working with multidisciplinary teams. The successful candidate will work in a dynamic and progressive organisation that provides a multiplicity of services to the County.
Local Government is placing a greater emphasis on Strategic Management, accountability, performance management and customer service. As a key member of the finance management team, you will be required to make a valuable contribution to the strategic management of the finance function.
