Meath County Council invites applications from suitably qualified persons who wish to be considered for inclusion on a panel from which permanent and fixed-term contract vacancies for the position of Tourism Officer shall be drawn.
The main objective of the Tourism Officer will be to actively develop and promote Meath as a high quality tourist destination. The successful candidate, reporting to the Director of Services, Economic Development, Rural Regeneration and EU Affairs, will be expected to perform duties in relation to tourism activities undertaken by Meath County Council and to work with other stakeholders in the promotion of tourism in the region.
Developing and implementing Meath County Council’s Tourism Strategy and Work Programme in conjunction with Meath County Council’s Corporate Plan 2024 – 2029.
Leading the Council’s involvement in the development of an iconic tourism attraction of scale within the county making Meath the country’s premier destination for experiential tourism.
Coordinating and facilitating the efforts of the tourism sector to realise the county’s tourism potential as a gateway to Ireland’s Ancient East.
Developing Meath’s distinctive qualities and its functions as a cultural destination and leisure destination to expand the role of the county as an important gateway and base for regional tourism.
Managing tourism projects under the auspices of Meath County Council;
Contributing to the collective marketing initiatives on a cross-county and regional basis;
Working closely with Fáilte Ireland, Meath County Council and other bodies and agencies to advance tourism in Meath;
Promoting Meath’s tourist attractions and facilities;
Assisting in the implementation of relevant objectives from Meath County Council’s Corporate Plan.
Providing information to tour operators, travel agents, publishers, media and travel writers.
Identifying potential opportunities that EU, National and local plans may present for tourism in Meath and securing additional funding from both private and public sources;
Liaising with local interests, including state agencies, local development bodies, the business sector and the community & voluntary sector regarding the identification of suitable projects which could be developed through various initiatives;
To carry out any administrative duties pertaining to the role;
Preparing proposals and submissions and, as required, responding to national and regional policy documents, which influence the development of tourism within the county;
Preparing and presenting an annual report on the development of tourism in Meath for Meath County Council;
To have responsibility for financial management of the tourism budget assigned on an annual basis;
Carrying out any such other duties required by the Chief Executive of Meath County Council.
