Job Summary

Wexford County Council invites applicants for the post of Temporary Resident Engineer.
Selection for this post will be by means of interview and candidates may be shortlisted based on applications submitted. Panels may be formed from which vacancies may be filled.

Closing date for receipt of completed application forms for the above post is 5.00pm on Thursday 3rd July, 2025.

 

Each candidate must, on the latest date for receipt of completed application forms:
(i) hold an honours degree (level 8 in the National Framework of Qualifications) or equivalent professional qualification in civil engineering,
(ii) possess a high standard of technical training and experience
(iii) possess a high standard of contract management and contract administrative experience using the public works form of contracts including issuing instructions; change orders; assessing and adjudicating on contractor claim as delegated by the Employers Representative
(iv) possess a high standard of engineering and technical experience in relation to the supervision of civil engineering and public works
(v) have an adequate knowledge of civil engineering works
(vi) be capable of writing clear and concise reports, keeping works records, measuring and recording all variations from contract and reading drawings;
(vii) have a satisfactory knowledge of current codes of practice; specifications and GCCC public works forms of contract
(viii) have a satisfactory knowledge of Quality Assurance procedures
(ix) have a satisfactory knowledge of Health & Safety Requirements
(x) Hold a current clean full driving licence (minimum Class B) and have access to a car at all times for use in their work, details of which must be entered on the application form.

It is also desirable but not essential that candidates:
(a) Hold a current Safe Pass Card Successful candidates will be required to have a valid Safe Pass Card prior to taking up duty.

EXPERIENCE
Each candidate must, on the latest date for receipt of completed application forms: -
(a) have not less than 5 years satisfactory post graduate experience in civil engineering works with particular experience in the areas of on-site supervision/management, contract administration and project management of civil engineering contract works; including at least 3 years experience supervising civil engineering works on-site,
(b) be familiar with the Public Works Contract for civil engineering works, and
(c) satisfy the Local Authority that they have had adequate experience of a type which would render them suitable to perform satisfactorily the duties of the post for which they are a candidate.

In addition to the above, it is desirable that the successful candidate shall have: -
(i) experience of heavy civils, site development and marine engineering works
(ii) experience of road, street and greenway works
(iii) experience of urban public realm and public building development projects
(iv) experience of outdoor adventure/leisure facility developments
(v) experience of public park and related developments
(vi) hands-on experience of contract administration, claims management, measuring and valuing works, all in accordance with the GCCC public works contracts
(vii) experience of public liaison and consultation
